About Physical Education Courses at UCSC
These are regularly scheduled courses, which carry no academic credit but are recorded on your transcript, are available in a broad range of physical activities. Many classes are small, and all offer expert instruction and carefully designed practice periods, so that you can accomplish much in sessions of two to three hours per week.
Many activities have intermediate and advanced sections as well as courses for beginners. All of the Physical Education Course Descriptions are listed in the UC Santa Cruz General Catalog. Use the "Student Portal" to enroll for OPERS Physical Education Classes, or show up at the first class meeting.
Enrollment in P.E. Courses
Enrollment for P.E. classes is handled through the "AIS" system. In many cases, however as few as half of the pre-enrolled students may be in attendance at the first class meeting! Since attendance on the first day is required, the remaining spots will be filled by non-pre-enrolled students. If you weren't able to pre-enroll, don't give up! Go to the first class meeting! Many spots usually change hands.
UCSC P.E. Classes are open to Faculty, Staff and the Public on a space-available basis. Show up at the first class meeting to see if there is space (students will be given priority). If the course is not full, you may enroll. You will be required to purchase a UCSC Wellness Access Card (available at the OPERS Office) as well as pay any class fees that may be required for the particular course.
